Delete Your Account

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time — directly in the app or by contacting us.

Option 1 — Delete in the app

This is the fastest way. It removes your account and all data immediately.

  1. Open Bird Song NZ
  2. Tap the Profile tab (bottom right)
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account
  4. Confirm the prompt

Your account and all sighting history are deleted immediately. This cannot be undone.

Option 2 — Request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app, email us and we will delete your account and data within 30 days.

Include the email address you used to sign in to Bird Song NZ so we can locate your account.

Email us at the address below. We'll confirm deletion once it's complete.

What gets deleted

Account data

Your email address, login tokens, and account record are permanently removed from our database.

Sighting history

All logbook entries — species, dates, locations, and notes — are permanently deleted.

Badges and progress

All earned badges and birder rank progress are permanently deleted.

Anonymous detection data

Aggregated, anonymous detection records (used only for research — no name, email, or precise location) are retained separately as permitted by our Privacy Policy. These records cannot be linked back to you after your account is deleted.
